We transition to Sunflag - Article Information

Supreme Spring transitions to Sunflag – honouring a valued partnership, securing the future

As Supreme Spring enters a new chapter in its history, we do so with a mix of gratitude, respect and optimism.

For many years, ArcelorMittal South Africa has been a key raw material partner to our business. Their steel has played a central role in enabling us to design, manufacture and supply high-quality suspension components to both local and international automotive markets.

With the closure of ArcelorMittal South Africa’s operations, we acknowledge the end of an important era for the South African steel and manufacturing value chain. At the same time, we are pleased to announce that Supreme Spring is transitioning its primary raw material supply to Sunflag, a respected international supplier with whom we look forward to building a strong, reliable and future-focused relationship.

Thank you, ArcelorMittal South Africa

Supreme Spring extends its sincere thanks to ArcelorMittal South Africa for the many years of collaboration and support. Their steel has formed part of the backbone of our production, helping us meet demanding quality, safety and performance standards for OEM and aftermarket customers across a broad range of vehicle platforms.

Our partnership with ArcelorMittal South Africa contributed not only to our own growth, but also to the development of a robust, locally anchored automotive supply chain. As a South African manufacturer with a long-standing commitment to quality, safety and responsible growth, we recognise the contribution they have made to our company, our industry and our country.

While it is sad to see a major local steel producer close its doors, we will remember this relationship with respect and appreciation.

Welcoming Sunflag as our new raw material supplier

Following a careful evaluation process, Supreme Spring has selected Sunflag as our new primary raw material supplier. This decision is rooted in a shared commitment to:

  • Consistent quality – Sunflag’s capabilities align with our stringent technical and metallurgical requirements for heat-treated steel used in products such as coil springs, leaf springs, stabiliser bars, torsion bars, Panhard rods and specialised suspension components.
  • Reliability of supply – A stable and dependable raw material pipeline is essential to supporting our OEM and aftermarket customers, both in South Africa and around the world.
  • Technical collaboration – We see Sunflag as a partner with whom we can collaborate on innovation, process optimisation and long-term product development.

By combining Supreme Spring’s local manufacturing expertise with Sunflag’s international raw material capabilities, we are strengthening our ability to support the automotive industry with high-performance suspension solutions.

Continuity for customers – quality, performance and service

Supreme Spring remains fully committed to delivering the same – and better – levels of quality, performance and service that have made us a trusted supplier to leading automotive brands locally and internationally.

Our manufacturing processes, quality systems and testing regimes remain unchanged and continue to include:

  • Advanced hot and cold forming technologies
  • Use of high-performance spring steels
  • Shot peening, pre-setting and comprehensive load and fatigue testing
  • Protective coatings such as e-coat and powder coat finishes to enhance corrosion resistance and product life

The transition to Sunflag will be managed carefully and systematically to ensure:

  • Continuity of supply
  • Stable lead times
  • Consistent product performance across our full range of suspension components

Our customers can be assured that this change in raw material supplier is designed to protect and enhance the quality, reliability and durability they expect from Supreme Spring.

South African manufacturing – powered by global partnerships

As a South African manufacturer, Supreme Spring believes strongly in the power of local manufacturing to support jobs, skills and communities. While we now source our primary raw material from an international supplier, all our design, engineering and manufacturing of suspension components remain firmly rooted in South Africa.

In this way, we combine global raw material expertise with local manufacturing capability to:

  • Support the South African automotive value chain
  • Contribute to industrial capacity and competitiveness
  • Provide sustainable employment and skills development opportunities

Beyond our factory operations, Supreme Spring continues to invest in social responsibility initiatives focused on education, welfare and community upliftment in the areas where our employees live and work.

In this sense, our relationship with Sunflag is about more than material supply. It is part of how we ensure that Supreme Spring can continue to manufacture in South Africa at a world-class standard, compete globally and support long-term growth.

Looking ahead with confidence – growing together, growing South Africa

The closure of ArcelorMittal South Africa marks the end of an important chapter in our industry’s story. At Supreme Spring, we choose to honour that history while looking forward with confidence.

By partnering with Sunflag, we are:

  • Securing a robust, high-quality raw material supply
  • Reinforcing our commitment to local and international customers
  • Supporting the growth and resilience of South African manufacturing
  • Positioning Supreme Spring for sustainable growth in the years ahead

Growing together. Growing South Africa.
